Focusing on the breath always calms me down.
I felt my heart pumping strangely faster than usual this morning and as I started practicing the guided meditation focusing on breathing in and breathing out, I could feel the pumping went slower. At the end of the practice (I extended focusing on the breathing through nostrils after the guided meditation for another 10 minutes), the heartbeats turned calmer and so was I.
