Look Into The Truth

TAP Ep 45: Come and see it for yourself

How do you know when something is true?

The Buddha said, ehi passiko. Come and see.

Don’t just believe what you’re told. Don’t settle for secondhand truths. Don’t take anyone’s word for it — not even the Buddha’s words are meant to be accepted blindly.

Instead, we are invited to look inward and verify for ourselves, through mindful presence, direct experience, and personal discovery.

With mindfulness, we don’t merely think or talk about awareness, compassion, or impermanence.

We sit, breathe, observe, and live, witnessing the nature of the body and mind, seeing the presence of suffering and the conditions that lead us to freedom, tasting the fruits of our practice.

These are not ideas, but embodied wisdom and lived reality.

When we notice an urge to reach for our phone and stay with the impulse until it dissolves.

When we catch a moment of anger and allow the emotion to pass without letting it take over.

When we breathe through a difficult conversation and create space for a wiser response we won’t come to regret.

We realise:

Oh, when I pause and pay attention, something shifts.

Ah, everything that arises, sooner or later, will pass away.

This is the way we look into the truth.

In this Take A Pause livestream session on 20 April 2025, the TAP community practiced looking into the truth by observing the nature of the breath, body, and mind. We then listened mindfully to a reading from The First Free Women: Poems of the Early Buddhist Nuns by Matty Weingast.

Meditation begins: 09:45

Reading begins: 29:20

Practice duration: 20 minutes
