Loving our body through mindfulness means changing the way we relate to it.
From ignoring to attending.
From cutting off to tuning in.
From judgement and harshness, to awareness and compassion.
We begin to loosen our obsession with the headspace and anchor ourselves to the bare, living sensations of the body.
We learn to pay loving attention, not only when the body is in pain or calling for help, but in the quiet, ordinary moments too.
Loving the body doesn’t mean trying to control it, fix it, or shaping it into what we think it should be.
It means embracing it as it is.
Acknowledging its nature. Appreciating its wisdom.
It means honouring all the ways it has carried us, protected us, and kept us alive.
Through mindfulness, we endeavour to treat the body with more care.
To nourish it well. To rest when we are tired. To listen more deeply.
The body then becomes less a burden or problem to solve, and more a safe place to come home to.
A place of ease.
A living, breathing refuge we are learning to cherish.
In this Take A Pause session recorded live on 30 March 2025, the TAP community practiced loving the body through a mindful body scan. We attended to the body one part at a time, with curiosity and care.
We shared the reading “Please Be Gentle” by Nikita Gill, and offered some thoughts of kindness to the body:
May this body be filled with ease and wellbeing
May this body find rest and deep healing
May I trust in the body’s wisdom and resilience
May I inhabit this body with presence and joy
